Raw hide processing methods are called “leather tanning”. Today, there are three different methods of tanning including chrome-tanning, which is a common method of processing ovine and bovine leather production, vegetable tanning and physical tanning. Other than these methods, there are alum tanning and synthetic tanning methods available. Tanning process allows us to physically and chemically process the hide to make it an industrial material. As a result of these processes, the raw hide is transformed into various types of leather such as apparel, shoemaking, bag-making or upholstery.
